Intensive Treatment Family Care

The Intensive Treatment Family Care (ITFC) was created to help children and adolescents who have experienced multiple placements in the foster care system. Children referred to the ITFC program have historically been served in group homes, residential treatment centers or other highly structured congregate care facility. Created on the belief that family and community care is the best setting for services to occur, the ITFC program offers children and adolescents the best possible hope of successful placement outcomes

What is the target population of children referred to the program?

Children served by DHS ages 6-18.

The children referred to the program may display any of the following:

  • Extensive childhood trauma issues
  • Self-injurious behaviors
  • Physical Aggression
  • Problematic sexual behavior
  • Impaired cognitive or development functioning
  • Poor hygiene skills
  • poor social skills
  • Substance Abuse or Exposure to Substance Abuse
  • Moderate to severe medical needs

What is the target population of children referred to the program?

The Average Length of Stay: is 6-9 months

What Type of Supports will I be given to help care for the child?

The ITFC program is the most intensive foster care program that serves Oklahoma Children. It is designed to provide care to children with the high needs with the goal of preparing these children for successful transition into permanency or a lower level of foster care. ITFC parents will be surrounded by a support system which includes:

  • 24/7 crisis support
  • Evidence informed pre-service training
  • Weekly contact with a Care Coordinator
  • Assigned Licensed Therapists
  • Paid respite
  • Crisis Stabilization support homes
  • Ongoing training
  • Routine staffing to assist in client care and ensure progress in treatment
  • Professional Parent reimbursement

What are the requirements to become an ITFC family?

The requirements to become an ITFC family include:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must be two parent homes
  • One adult may not work outside the home
  • Both parents must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years professional experience working with children (Foster parenting counts!)
  • Demonstrated financial management & stability
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Physically capable of engaging in age appropriate activities with the child
  • Must make a 6-9 month commitment to a child placed in your home

Along with the above, the ITFC parent applicants must participate in a home study, extensive background checks and be willing to discuss their qualifications before a panel of reviewers prior to their application being approved.

What are ITFC parents compensated for the care provided?

ITFC parents are considered professional foster parents and as such are paid the highest level of any foster parent category in Oklahoma.


  • $110 per day (may be tax exempt- please discuss with your accountant)
  • 7 days of paid respite each placement cycle (placement cycle average would be 6-9 months)
  • 7 days paid ‘Leave” at the end of each placement cycle
