Tele- Medicine or Telemental Health is the provision of mental health services using live, interactive videoconferencing through a HIPPA secure network. Oklahoma Families First is on the forefront of this exciting new service and the potential benefits it may bring to rural and underserved areas of Oklahoma.
Rural and underserved communities often suffer from limited access to specialty mental health services. Provider organizations struggle to recruit and retain mental health specialists and often find it necessary to arrange for regular visits by a mental health consultant with considerable travel costs and limited on-site specialty clinician availability. The availability of psychiatrists in the rural areas of Oklahoma is almost non-existent.
Oklahoma Families First can now offer psychiatric services, medication evaluations and specialized behavioral health services to populations that would otherwise be required to drive hundreds of miles to receive.
Oklahoma Families First is proud to be part of this exciting new service and its potential in meeting the mental health needs of those in rural and underserved Oklahoma.
